Planting Instructions for Daikon Radish Seeds
- Location: Choose a spot with full sun and deep, loose, well-drained soil. Daikon radishes need space for long root development.
- When to Plant:
- Fall Crop (Recommended): Sow Todd’s Seeds Daikon Radish seeds 6–8 weeks before the first expected frost.
- Spring Crop: Sow as soon as the soil can be worked, though hot weather may cause bolting.
- Soil Prep: Loosen soil to a depth of 12–18 inches. Remove rocks and debris. Ideal soil pH is 5.8–6.8. Add compost if needed, but avoid nitrogen-rich fertilizer.
- Sowing Depth: Plant seeds 1/2 inch deep.
- Spacing: Space seeds 2–4 inches apart in rows 12–18 inches apart. Thin to 4–6 inches apart once seedlings emerge.
- Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during germination (5–10 days) and throughout the growing period to prevent splitting and encourage uniform root growth.
- Care: Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Avoid disturbing roots.
- Harvest: Harvest when roots are 6–20 inches long (depending on variety), typically 50–70 days after sowing. Pull before a hard freeze and store in a cool, humid place or refrigerate.
