Planting Instructions for Eggplant Seeds
- Location: Choose a sunny location with rich, well-drained soil. Eggplants need at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- When to Plant: Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last expected frost. Transplant outdoors 2–3 weeks after the last frost, when soil temperatures are consistently above 60°F.
- Soil Prep: Enrich the soil with compost or aged manure. Ideal pH is 5.8–6.5.
- Sowing Depth: Sow Todd’s Seeds Eggplant seeds 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix.
- Spacing: Transplant seedlings 18–24 inches apart in rows 24–36 inches apart.
- Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water at the base to prevent disease.
- Support: Use cages or stakes to support plants and keep fruit off the ground.
- Care: Mulch to retain moisture and control weeds. Fertilize every 4–6 weeks with a balanced fertilizer.
- Harvest: Harvest when fruits are glossy and firm, before the skin becomes dull and seeds harden. Cut with a sharp knife or pruners, leaving a short stem attached.
