Planting Instructions for Green Pea Seeds
- Location: Choose a site with full sun and well-drained soil. Peas prefer cooler weather.
- When to Plant: Sow Todd’s Seeds Green Pea seeds outdoors 4–6 weeks before the last expected frost in spring, or 8–10 weeks before the first fall frost.
- Soil Prep: Loosen soil and mix in compost. Ideal pH is 6.0–7.5. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers.
- Sowing Depth: Plant seeds 1–1.5 inches deep.
- Spacing: Space seeds 2 inches apart in rows 18–24 inches apart. For trellised varieties, plant on either side of the support.
- Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during germination (7–14 days) and throughout growth, especially during flowering and pod development.
- Support: Provide a trellis or netting for climbing varieties. Bush types may not require support.
- Care: Mulch to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Avoid disturbing roots while weeding.
- Harvest: Pick peas when pods are plump and bright green but before they become tough. Frequent harvesting encourages continued production.
