Planting Instructions for Pea Seeds
- Location: Choose a sunny location with well-drained, fertile soil. Peas thrive in cool weather.
- When to Plant:
- Sow Todd’s Seeds Peas seeds directly outdoors 4–6 weeks before the last expected spring frost.
- For a fall crop, sow 8–10 weeks before the first expected frost.
- Soil Prep: Loosen soil and mix in compost. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers. Ideal soil pH is 6.0–7.5.
- Sowing Depth: Plant seeds 1–1.5 inches deep.
- Spacing: Space seeds 2 inches apart in rows 18–24 inches apart. For trellised varieties, plant on both sides of the support.
- Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during germination (7–14 days) and through the growing season, especially during flowering and pod set.
- Support: Provide a trellis or netting for climbing types. Bush types usually do not need support.
- Care: Mulch to conserve moisture and reduce weeds. Avoid disturbing roots while weeding.
- Harvest: Harvest peas when pods are plump and green, before they become tough. Regular picking encourages more production.
