Planting Instructions for Wheatgrass – Hydroponic (Soilless) Method
🌾 Supplies Needed
- Hard red winter wheat or wheatgrass seeds
- Shallow tray with drainage (or sprouting tray with mesh)
- Growing mat (hemp, coconut coir, or paper towel)
- Spray bottle
- Clean water
- Optional: blackout dome or second tray to cover
🪴 Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Soak the Todd’s Seeds Wheatgrass Seeds
- Rinse and soak seeds in cool water for 8–12 hours (overnight).
- Drain, rinse again, and let rest for another 8–12 hours until just sprouting.
2. Prepare the Tray
- Lay your growing mat or 2–3 layers of paper towels on the bottom of the tray.
- Moisten thoroughly so the surface is damp but not soaking.
3. Sow the Seeds
- Spread the pre-sprouted seeds evenly across the surface.
- Gently press them down for good contact with the mat, but do not cover with more material.
4. Cover & Germinate
- Cover the tray with another tray or dome to block light and hold in moisture.
- Place in a dark, warm area (65–75°F) for 2–3 days.
- Mist seeds 1–2 times daily to keep evenly moist.
5. Uncover & Grow
- When shoots are 1–2 inches tall, remove the cover and move to bright, indirect sunlight or a grow light.
- Continue misting or bottom watering once or twice daily to keep the mat moist (not soggy).
6. Harvest
- Harvest when blades are 6–8 inches tall—usually 7–10 days after sowing.
- Cut just above the mat with clean scissors.
7. Second Cut (Optional)
- You may get a smaller second harvest within a few days. After that, compost the mat and roots.
🧊 Storage
- Store cut wheatgrass in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Rinse before juicing or blending.
✅ Tips:
- Use filtered water for best results.
- Clean trays thoroughly between uses to prevent mold.
