Planting Instructions for Red Cabbage Seeds
- Location: Choose a site with full sun and well-drained, fertile soil.
- When to Plant: Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost, or sow directly outdoors 2–4 weeks before the last frost. For a fall crop, sow in midsummer.
- Soil Prep: Loosen soil and enrich with compost or aged manure. Ideal soil pH is 6.0–7.5.
- Sowing Depth: Sow Todd’s Seeds Cabbage, Red seeds 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep.
- Spacing: Thin or transplant seedlings to 12–18 inches apart in rows 24–36 inches apart.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist. Water at the base of the plant to avoid disease.
- Care: Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Feed with a balanced fertilizer every 3–4 weeks if needed.
- Harvest: Harvest when heads are firm and reach the desired size, about 70–100 days after transplanting. Cut at the base with a sharp knife. Remove the entire plant after harvesting.
