Planting Instructions for Basil, Italian Large Leaf Seeds
- Location: Select a sunny location with well-drained soil.
- When to Plant: Sow Todd’s Seeds Italian Large Leaf Basil Seeds outdoors after the danger of frost has passed and soil is warm, or start indoors 4–6 weeks before the last expected frost.
- Soil Prep: Prepare soil by loosening it and adding compost if needed. Ideal soil pH is 6.0–7.5.
- Sowing Depth: Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep.
- Spacing: Sow seeds 1 inch apart, then thin seedlings to 10–12 inches apart once they are a few inches tall.
- Watering: Keep soil consistently moist until germination (7–14 days), then water regularly without overwatering. Avoid wetting the leaves.
- Care: Pinch the tops of the plants regularly to promote bushy growth and delay flowering. Remove any flower buds that appear.
- Harvest: Harvest leaves once the plant reaches 6–8 inches tall. For best flavor, pick in the morning before the sun is strong.
