Planting Instructions for Nasturtium Seeds
- Location: Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Nasturtiums tolerate poor soil but do best in moderately fertile conditions.
- When to Plant:
- Outdoors: Sow Todd’s Seeds Nasturtium seeds directly after the last frost when the soil has warmed.
- Indoors: Start seeds 2–4 weeks before the last frost for earlier blooms. Transplant carefully.
- Soil Prep: Loosen soil. Avoid rich soil, which can reduce flowering. Ideal pH is 6.0–7.5.
- Sowing Depth: Plant seeds 1/2 inch deep.
- Spacing:
- Bush types: Space 10–12 inches apart.
- Trailing/climbing types: Space 18–24 inches apart; provide support if climbing.
- Watering: Keep soil moist during germination (7–14 days). Once established, water moderately—nasturtiums are drought tolerant.
- Care: No fertilizer needed. Deadhead to encourage more blooms. Avoid transplant shock by disturbing roots as little as possible.
- Bloom Time: Late spring to frost. Nasturtiums produce vibrant, edible flowers and foliage, ideal for borders, hanging baskets, and salads.
