Planting Instructions for Spinach Seeds

  1. Location: Choose a site with full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soil. Spinach prefers cool temperatures.
  2. When to Plant:
    • Spring Crop: Sow Todd’s Seeds Spinach seeds 4–6 weeks before the last expected frost.
    • Fall Crop: Sow 6–8 weeks before the first expected frost. Spinach thrives in temperatures between 45–75°F.
  3. Soil Prep: Loosen soil and mix in compost or aged manure. Ideal soil pH is 6.0–7.5.
  4. Sowing Depth: Plant seeds 1/2 inch deep.
  5. Spacing: Sow seeds 1 inch apart in rows 12–18 inches apart. Thin seedlings to 3–6 inches apart once they have a few true leaves.
  6. Watering: Keep soil consistently moist during germination (7–14 days) and throughout the growing season to prevent bolting.
  7. Care: Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Avoid letting plants dry out or overheat.
  8. Harvest: Begin harvesting outer leaves when they are large enough to eat, or cut the whole plant 1 inch above the soil. Regular harvesting encourages more growth.
