Planting Instructions for Swiss Chard Seeds

  1. Location: Choose a site with full sun to partial shade and well-drained, fertile soil. Swiss chard thrives in cool to warm temperatures.
  2. When to Plant:
  3. Soil Prep: Loosen soil and enrich with compost or aged manure. Ideal pH is 6.0–7.0.
  4. Seed Prep (Optional): Soak seeds in water for 4–6 hours before planting to speed up germination.
  5. Sowing Depth: Plant seeds 1/2 inch deep.
  6. Spacing: Sow seeds 2 inches apart in rows 12–18 inches apart. Thin to 6–12 inches apart when seedlings are a few inches tall.
  7. Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during germination (7–14 days) and throughout the growing season. Do not allow the soil to dry out completely.
  8. Care: Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer if needed.
  9. Harvest: Begin harvesting outer leaves when plants are 6–8 inches tall. Cut leaves 1–2 inches above the base; plants will continue producing new leaves throughout the season.
