Planting Instructions for Basil Seeds

  1. Location: Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil.
  2. When to Plant: Sow Todd’s Seeds Basil seeds outdoors after the last frost when soil is warm, or start indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost date.
  3. Soil Prep: Loosen soil and mix in compost if needed. Basil prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 6.0–7.5).
  4. Sowing Depth: Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep.
  5. Spacing: Space seeds or thin seedlings to 10–12 inches apart.
  6. Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water at the base to avoid wetting leaves.
  7. Care: Pinch off the top leaves regularly to encourage bushy growth and prevent flowering. Remove flower buds to prolong leaf production.
  8. Harvest: Begin harvesting when plants are about 6–8 inches tall. Pick leaves as needed, starting from the top.
