Planting Instructions for Broccoli Seeds

  1. Location: Choose a site with full sun and well-drained, fertile soil.
  2. When to Plant: Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last spring frost or sow directly outdoors 2–4 weeks before the last frost. For fall crops, sow in mid to late summer.
  3. Soil Prep: Loosen soil and enrich with compost or aged manure. Ideal soil pH is 6.0–7.0.
  4. Sowing Depth: Sow Todd’s Seeds Broccoli seeds 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep.
  5. Spacing: Thin or transplant seedlings to 18–24 inches apart in rows spaced 24–36 inches apart.
  6. Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, especially during head formation. Avoid overhead watering to reduce disease risk.
  7. Care: Apply mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Feed with a balanced fertilizer every 3–4 weeks if needed.
  8. Harvest: Harvest when the main head is firm and tight, before florets begin to open. Cut 5–6 inches of stem below the head. Side shoots may continue to develop after the main harvest.
