Planting Instructions for Cantaloupe Seeds

  1. Location: Choose a site with full sun and well-drained, warm soil.
  2. When to Plant: Sow Todd’s Seeds Cantaloupe seeds outdoors after the danger of frost has passed and soil temperatures reach at least 70°F. For an early start, sow indoors 2–4 weeks before the last frost.
  3. Soil Prep: Enrich the soil with compost or well-rotted manure. Ideal pH is 6.0–6.8.
  4. Sowing Depth: Plant seeds 1 inch deep.
  5. Spacing: Sow 2–3 seeds per hill, spaced 3–4 feet apart. Thin to the strongest seedling per hill once established.
  6. Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, especially during flowering and fruit set. Reduce watering when fruit begins to ripen to enhance sweetness.
  7. Care: Mulch to retain moisture and control weeds. Provide support or trellising if space is limited.
  8. Harvest: Harvest when the fruit slips easily from the vine with gentle pressure and has a sweet fragrance. The skin under the netting should be golden or creamy in color.
