Planting Instructions for Catnip Seeds
- Location: Choose a spot with full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil.
- When to Plant: Sow Todd’s Seeds Catnip seeds outdoors in spring after the last frost, or start indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost date.
- Soil Prep: Loosen soil and mix in compost if needed. Ideal pH is 6.1–7.8.
- Sowing Depth: Sow seeds 1/8 inch deep. Lightly cover with soil.
- Spacing: Thin or transplant seedlings to 12–18 inches apart in rows spaced 18–24 inches apart.
- Watering: Keep soil lightly moist during germination (7–14 days), then water moderately once plants are established.
- Care: Pinch back young plants to encourage bushiness. Cut back after flowering to promote new growth. Catnip can spread aggressively—consider container growing if needed.
- Harvest: Harvest leaves once plants are 6–8 inches tall. For best potency, harvest just before flowering. Dry in a cool, dark place and store in an airtight container.
