Planting Instructions for Cucumber Seeds

  1. Location: Choose a sunny site with well-drained, fertile soil.
  2. When to Plant: Sow Todd’s Seeds Cucumber seeds outdoors after the danger of frost has passed and soil temperatures are consistently above 70°F. For an early start, sow indoors 3–4 weeks before the last frost.
  3. Soil Prep: Enrich the soil with compost or aged manure. Ideal soil pH is 6.0–6.8.
  4. Sowing Depth: Plant seeds 1 inch deep.
  5. Spacing:
    • Bush varieties: Space seeds 8–12 inches apart in rows 3 feet apart.
    • Vining varieties: Space seeds 12 inches apart in rows 4–6 feet apart, or plant in hills with 3–4 seeds per hill, spaced 3–5 feet apart.
  6. Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water at the base to avoid wetting leaves, which can lead to disease.
  7. Support: Use a trellis or cage for vining varieties to save space and promote air circulation.
  8. Care: Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer once vines begin to run.
  9. Harvest: Pick cucumbers when they are firm, green, and smooth. Frequent harvesting encourages continued production. Avoid letting fruits over-mature on the vine.
