Planting Instructions for Dill Seeds

  1. Location: Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Dill does best with at least 6 hours of sunlight daily.
  2. When to Plant: Sow Todd’s Seeds Dill seeds directly outdoors 1–2 weeks before the last expected frost. For a continuous harvest, sow every 2–3 weeks until midsummer.
  3. Soil Prep: Loosen soil and enrich with compost if needed. The ideal pH is 5.5–6.5.
  4. Sowing Depth: Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep.
  5. Spacing: Sow seeds 1–2 inches apart in rows 18 inches apart. Thin seedlings to 8–12 inches apart once they are a few inches tall.
  6. Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during germination (7–14 days). Water regularly, especially during dry spells.
  7. Care: Dill has a long taproot and does not transplant well. Stake tall plants if necessary to prevent lodging.
  8. Harvest: Begin harvesting leaves when plants are 6–8 inches tall. For seeds, allow flower heads to dry on the plant, then collect and store in a dry, cool place.
