Planting Instructions for Iceberg Lettuce Seeds

  1. Location: Choose a site with full sun and well-drained, fertile soil. In warmer climates, partial afternoon shade is beneficial.
  2. When to Plant:
    • Spring Crop: Sow Todd’s Seeds Lettuce iceberg seeds outdoors 2–4 weeks before the last expected frost.
    • Fall Crop: Sow 6–8 weeks before the first expected frost. Iceberg lettuce prefers cool weather.
  3. Soil Prep: Loosen soil and mix in compost or aged manure. Ideal soil pH is 6.0–7.0.
  4. Sowing Depth: Sow seeds 1/8 inch deep and lightly cover with soil.
  5. Spacing: Thin or transplant seedlings to 10–12 inches apart in rows spaced 12–18 inches apart.
  6. Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Avoid overhead watering to reduce disease risk.
  7. Care: Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Avoid disturbing shallow roots when weeding.
  8. Harvest: Harvest when heads are firm and full-sized, about 70–85 days after sowing. Cut the head at the base with a sharp knife. Use promptly for best crispness.
