Planting Instructions for Morning Glory Seeds
- Location: Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Morning glories thrive in full sun and can tolerate poor soil.
- When to Plant: Sow Todd’s Seeds Morning Glory seeds directly outdoors after the last frost when the soil has warmed. In cooler climates, start seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost.
- Scarification (Recommended): Nick the seed coat with a nail file or soak seeds in warm water for 12–24 hours before planting to improve germination.
- Soil Prep: Loosen soil and remove weeds. Ideal pH is 6.0–7.0. No fertilizer needed unless the soil is extremely poor.
- Sowing Depth: Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep.
- Spacing: Space seeds 6–12 inches apart.
- Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during germination (5–10 days). Once established, morning glories are drought-tolerant and need only occasional watering.
- Support: Provide a trellis, fence, or other vertical support for vines to climb.
- Care: Minimal maintenance required. Avoid excessive fertilization, which can produce more leaves than flowers. Deadhead to prolong blooming if desired.
- Bloom Time: Midsummer through fall. Morning glories produce vibrant, trumpet-shaped flowers that open in the morning and attract pollinators.
