Planting Instructions for Morning Glory Seeds

  1. Location: Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Morning glories thrive in full sun and can tolerate poor soil.
  2. When to Plant: Sow Todd’s Seeds Morning Glory seeds directly outdoors after the last frost when the soil has warmed. In cooler climates, start seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost.
  3. Scarification (Recommended): Nick the seed coat with a nail file or soak seeds in warm water for 12–24 hours before planting to improve germination.
  4. Soil Prep: Loosen soil and remove weeds. Ideal pH is 6.0–7.0. No fertilizer needed unless the soil is extremely poor.
  5. Sowing Depth: Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep.
  6. Spacing: Space seeds 6–12 inches apart.
  7. Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during germination (5–10 days). Once established, morning glories are drought-tolerant and need only occasional watering.
  8. Support: Provide a trellis, fence, or other vertical support for vines to climb.
  9. Care: Minimal maintenance required. Avoid excessive fertilization, which can produce more leaves than flowers. Deadhead to prolong blooming if desired.
  10. Bloom Time: Midsummer through fall. Morning glories produce vibrant, trumpet-shaped flowers that open in the morning and attract pollinators.
