Planting Instructions for Mustard Seeds
- Location: Choose a site with full sun and well-drained, fertile soil. Mustard grows best in cool weather.
- When to Plant:
- Spring Crop: Sow Todd’s Seeds Mustard seeds 2–4 weeks before the last frost.
- Fall Crop: Sow 6–8 weeks before the first expected frost.
- Soil Prep: Loosen soil and enrich with compost or aged manure. Ideal soil pH is 6.0–7.5.
- Sowing Depth: Sow seeds 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep.
- Spacing: Sow seeds 1 inch apart in rows 12–18 inches apart. Thin seedlings to 4–6 inches apart.
- Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during germination (5–10 days) and throughout the growing season. Avoid overhead watering to reduce disease risk.
- Care: Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Harvest young leaves regularly to encourage new growth.
- Harvest:
- Leaves: Harvest when young and tender, starting about 3–4 weeks after planting.
- Seeds: Allow plants to flower and form seed pods. Harvest when pods turn brown and dry on the plant. Cut the whole plant and hang it to dry before threshing to collect seeds.
