Planting Instructions for Pak Choi (Bok Choy) Seeds

  1. Location: Choose a site with full sun to partial shade and well-drained, fertile soil.
  2. When to Plant:
    • Spring Crop: Sow Todd’s Seeds Pak Choi seeds 2–4 weeks before the last expected frost.
    • Fall Crop: Sow 6–8 weeks before the first expected frost. Pak choi prefers cooler temperatures.
  3. Soil Prep: Loosen soil and enrich with compost or aged manure. Ideal soil pH is 6.0–7.5.
  4. Sowing Depth: Plant seeds 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep.
  5. Spacing: Space seeds 1 inch apart in rows 12–18 inches apart. Thin seedlings to 6–10 inches apart for baby pak choi, or 10–12 inches for full-sized heads.
  6. Watering: Keep soil consistently moist during germination (7–10 days) and throughout the growing season to prevent bolting.
  7. Care: Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Shade may be helpful in warm weather.
  8. Harvest:
    • Baby Pak Choi: Harvest when plants are 4–6 inches tall, about 30 days after planting.
    • Full-Size: Harvest in 45–60 days by cutting the entire plant at the base. Use fresh for best flavor.
