Planting Instructions for Radish Seeds
- Location: Choose a sunny spot with loose, well-drained soil. Radishes grow best in cool weather.
- When to Plant:
- Spring Crop: Sow Todd’s Seeds Radish seeds 2–4 weeks before the last expected frost.
- Fall Crop: Sow 6–8 weeks before the first expected frost.
- For continuous harvests, sow every 7–10 days.
- Soil Prep: Loosen soil to a depth of 6–8 inches and remove stones. Ideal pH is 6.0–7.0. Add compost if the soil is poor.
- Sowing Depth: Plant seeds 1/2 inch deep.
- Spacing: Space seeds 1 inch apart in rows 12 inches apart. Thin to 2 inches apart once seedlings emerge.
- Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Inconsistent watering can cause cracking or a spicy flavor.
- Care: Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers, which promote leafy growth over roots.
- Harvest: Harvest when roots are 1–2 inches in diameter, typically 20–30 days after sowing. Do not let them get oversized, or they will become woody and bitter.
