Planting Instructions for Thyme Seeds

  1. Location: Choose a spot with full sun and well-drained, sandy or rocky soil. Thyme thrives in dry conditions and is ideal for garden beds, borders, or containers.
  2. When to Plant:
    • Indoors: Start Todd’s Seeds Thyme Seeds 6–10 weeks before the last frost.
    • Outdoors: Transplant or direct sow after the last frost when the soil has warmed.
  3. Soil Prep: Loosen soil and mix in compost if needed, but avoid overly rich soil. Ideal pH is 6.0–8.0.
  4. Sowing Depth: Scatter seeds on the surface and press lightly. Do not cover—thyme seeds need light to germinate.
  5. Spacing: Thin or transplant seedlings to 8–12 inches apart.
  6. Watering: Keep soil lightly moist during germination (14–28 days). Once established, water sparingly—thyme prefers dry conditions and is drought-tolerant.
  7. Care:
    • Trim regularly to encourage bushy growth and prevent flowering if growing for leaves.
    • Prune in spring to remove woody stems and encourage new growth.
    • Avoid overwatering and high humidity.
  8. Harvest: Begin harvesting once plants are 4–6 inches tall. Snip sprigs as needed, preferably in the morning. Use fresh or dry in a dark, airy space and store in airtight containers.
