Planting Instructions for Wheatgrass Seeds

🌾 Supplies Needed

  • Hard red winter wheat or wheatgrass seeds
  • Shallow tray with drainage holes
  • Organic potting mix or growing medium
  • Spray bottle or gentle watering can

🪴 Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Soak the Todd’s Seeds Wheatgrass Seeds

  • Rinse and soak seeds in cool water for 8–12 hours (overnight).
  • Drain and rinse again. Let sit in a jar or bowl for another 8–12 hours to slightly sprout.

2. Prepare the Tray

  • Fill your tray with 1–2 inches of moistened soil or growing medium.
  • Flatten and gently pat down without compacting.

3. Sow the Seeds

  • Evenly scatter pre-sprouted seeds over the soil surface.
  • Press gently into the soil without covering them.

4. Initial Covering

  • Cover the tray with another tray, lid, or damp paper towel to block light and help retain moisture.
  • Keep in a dark, warm area for 2 days.

5. Watering

  • Mist once or twice daily to keep the seeds moist but not soggy.
  • After 2 days, remove the cover and place in indirect sunlight or under grow lights.

6. Growing Conditions

  • Continue misting or bottom watering as needed.
  • Grow in bright light for strong, green shoots.

7. Harvest

  • Harvest when blades are 6–8 inches tall (typically 7–10 days after sowing).
  • Cut just above the soil line with clean scissors. Best consumed fresh.

8. Optional Second Cut

  • Water and let regrow for a second, lighter harvest within a few more days.
