Planting Instructions for Zinnia Seeds
- Location: Choose a spot with full sun and well-drained soil. Zinnias thrive in heat and are easy to grow.
- When to Plant:
- Outdoors: Sow Todd’s Seeds Zinnia seeds directly after the last frost when the soil is warm (above 60°F).
- Indoors: Start seeds 4–6 weeks before the last expected frost date and transplant carefully.
- Soil Prep: Loosen soil and mix in compost if needed. Ideal pH is 5.5–7.5.
- Sowing Depth: Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep.
- Spacing:
- Short varieties: Space 6–9 inches apart.
- Taller varieties: Space 12–18 inches apart in rows 18–24 inches apart.
- Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during germination (5–10 days). Water at the base to avoid wetting foliage and prevent mildew.
- Care:
- Thin seedlings to proper spacing to promote air circulation.
- Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering.
- Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Bloom Time: Begins 6–8 weeks after sowing and continues through frost. Zinnias are excellent for cut flowers and attract butterflies and pollinators.
